It’s one of the first questions people ask when they start looking at holiday lodges: how long will it last? It’s a sensible question. A lodge is a big purchase, and you want to know you’ll enjoy it for a long time.
The honest answer is that there isn’t one number that fits every lodge. How long a holiday lodge lasts depends on how it was built, how well it’s looked after, and the park it sits on. This guide explains what makes the difference, and what to ask before you buy. We don’t give a set number of years here, because it varies so much from lodge to lodge.
What affects how long a lodge lasts
How it was made. Lodges are built by different makers to different specifications. The maker and the model make a difference, so ask for the details of any lodge you’re considering. Our new lodges are made by Love Holiday Homes. We also sell pre-owned lodges, and a Victory Lakewood built by Victory.
How it’s looked after. This is the big one. A lodge that’s cleaned, checked and kept in good order will stay in good condition far longer than one that’s left alone. Simple seasonal jobs make a real difference. Our park FAQs answer common ownership questions.
How it’s used. A lodge that’s used and aired regularly tends to stay fresher than one that’s shut up for months on end. Because Epworth Fields is open 12 months a year, you can visit in every season, which helps you spot small jobs early.
Where it’s sited. A lodge on a well-kept pitch, with good access and a tidy surrounding, is easier to look after. A well-run park helps.
Lifespan is not the same as value
How long a lodge lasts and what it’s worth are two different questions. A lodge can last for a long time and give you years of holidays, but it isn’t the same as buying a house. If you’re thinking about the money side, read our honest guide, are holiday lodges a good investment?
What to ask before you buy
Whether you’re looking at a new lodge or a pre-owned one, these questions help:
- Who made the lodge, and which model is it? Ask the park to tell you.
- How old is it, and how has it been looked after? This matters most on a pre-owned lodge.
- What does the park expect owners to do to look after their lodge?
- What’s included in the price? At Epworth Fields, siting, connection, decking and furnishings are included.
- What are the site fees, and how will they change? Ours are £3,000 plus VAT a year, frozen for 5 years.
New or pre-owned?
A new lodge gives you a fresh start. A pre-owned lodge can mean a lower price, and on our park it comes with the same 12-month season and the same frozen site fee. Either way, you’ll be able to look round the lodge properly at a viewing and ask about its history.
See all the lodges we have at the moment on our lodges for sale page. Prices start from £49,995.
Looking after your lodge at Epworth Fields
Ask us at your viewing about looking after the lodge you’re interested in. Owning a lodge on a quiet, family-run park helps, too. Epworth Fields is owners-only, with no letting, so lodges are used by the people who own them and care about them.
